Ep87 Transcript: Dont Let Adversity Stop You – Top Takeaways from Fleet Maull
Do you sometimes feel like the world is against you? Well, in episode 86, I talked to Dr. Fleet Maull who went from prison to a world-renowned expert in the field of mindfulness. He has had plenty of adversity in his life, but he didn’t let that stop him, and he is a late starter. We’re gonna dive into our interview and my top takeaways.

And now back to our regularly scheduled program.
One of the themes that ran through Dr. Fleet Mall’s episode was the way he has handled adversity in his life. He has not let it stop him.
He was in prison, didn’t get out till he was almost 50 and started two organizations while in prison, which was amazing in itself. Plus he got his PhD during prison as well, and he came out of that experience and hit the ground running. He was presenting all over the world and he had plenty of adversity along the way.
He lost his son in 2020 to a seizure from a major brain injury. He lost a dear person in his life to cancer, lost his parents, and he kept going even through the depression that he described as swimming through mud.
Now, how did he keep going? I think a lot of it was due to his practice of meditation and mindfulness that helped him have a baseline and a way that he could cope through all of this.
But for sure he just kept moving forward and didn’t let it stop him. And we talked about how you can overestimate what you can get done in a week, but underestimate what you can do in a year. And I think that’s so important as you are moving forward and as you might feel like you’re not making progress, to be able to just keep pushing through, putting one step in front of the other and before it, you know it, you may have created this huge movement.
For with people around the world. I don’t think that was initially what he was thinking he would do. He was working with the people in the prisons, but it just grew and grew and grew and now he has huge international summits and is growing from there and still is not being stopped. Even in his seventies.
So if you haven’t had a chance to go back and listen to episode 86, I highly recommend you do it because it’s a great lesson in how to handle adversity.
