This episode of Quick Fix Friday is a little bit different as I speak from my heart as I am working to push past some resistance that I am feeling.
Resistance is just a way of protecting us against disappointment.
Resistance is cunning. Resistance is an opportunist that will recognize that you are feeling a little bit of disappointment and will prey on that feeling.
Resistance will whisper, “Yes, that’s right. What IS the point here? Why are you doing this?”
And resistance will try to protect you from further disappointment by telling you “Just stop now. Give up because we knew that wasn’t going turn out anyway.”
What I’m trying to do right now is just sit with this resistance. Speak to it softly and firmly.
Acknowledge that resistance and say to it “Thank you so much for showing up and trying to protect me and trying to be there for me. Because you know I’ve been hurt in the past and you don’t want that for me. Right?”
But I also know that my mission is bigger than my resistance, and I know that if I just keep going, I will have the reward at the end.
Maybe that reward is not going to look exactly like I thought it would. But that’s ok, too.
Starting something new is hard work. It’s scary sometimes. But it’s worth it.
Let me know how you work with your resistance in the comments below.
