Are you procrastinating doing something you really want to do, like launching a new business, learning a new skill, or doing something that you’ve always said you wanted to do? Well, in today’s episode of Quick Fix Friday, I’m going to show you how to stop procrastinating.
Tip 1: Do a little deeper to find out why you are procrastinating. Maybe ask yourself these questions – Are you afraid of doing something? Is it scary? Is it hard? Is it too big of a task? Do you need to break it down into smaller chunks? Are you worried you’re going to fail? Are you worried you’re going to succeed? Do you really want to get that thing done?
Tip 2: Have a plan of action to tackle that obstacle. Once you have identified the obstacle that is making you procrastinate make a plan to work around it
Tip 3: Protect your time. Once you have decided how you are going to push past your procrastination you then need to schedule and protect the time you want to dedicate to that thing.
Tip 4: Give yourself a reward (or some pain). As James Clear, author of Atomic Habits points out, we oftentimes do not give ourselves enough reward for the steps that we’re taking to achieve that goal, and that is part of the reason we’re not finding some momentum. We could also look at it from the opposite point of view of putting in something undesirable that will happen if we don’t do XYZ and that might motivate us to avoid that consequence.
Tip 5: Get some accountability with friends or within a mastermind. Sometimes if we know someone is expecting something from us we will be motivated to do that thing.
Let’s dive into the details!
