Ep123 Transcript: Don’t Be Afraid to Change Direction – Top Takeaway from Lori Bush

July 12, 2023

Andrea Vahl: Don’t be afraid to change direction. That’s one of the top takeaways I got from Lori Bush, former CEO of Rodan and Fields who helped take that company to a billion dollars. She has had a remarkable journey and she is launching something new. So tune in as I go into my top takeaways from episode 122.

Hello Dreamers. Welcome to the Late Starters Club, giving you the inspiration mindset and tools you need to start something midlife and beyond. Remember, it’s never too late to follow your dreams.

First a word from our sponsor. Me!

Are you feeling stuck in your business and aren’t sure how to grow? Or maybe you’re starting something new and just really don’t know what strategy is going to work best for you? Then you might need my one-on-one coaching and consulting. I’ve personally helped businesses grow to the six-figure mark and seven-figure mark.

Whether it’s really diving into your ads and seeing what’s wrong, giving you hands-on specific advice, or it’s just taking a look at your overall strategy and giving you some recommendations for moving ahead, just go to andreavahl.com and go to the consulting and coaching tab for more information and packages that fit your needs.

And now back to our regularly scheduled program.

Lori Bush has led a remarkable life and she has had lots of growth opportunities. Between her leading Rodan Fields to a billion-dollar company. To successfully getting through a cancer diagnosis, and now without planning to launching a brand new integrative beauty line called Solvasa.

She’s not been afraid to change directions when she needed to. And that is one of my top takeaways, especially during her recent launch of Solvasa. She actually was thinking she was going to be more retired in this phase of her life, but she connected with Dr. Chopra during her cancer treatment and decided that this was something that she had a passion for. She was following her curiosity while she was going through her cancer treatments and realized there was something missing in the beauty industry.

And through serendipity, Dr. Chopra also was researching some similar ideas, but they pivoted into something that is even more than just a beauty line. And when that wasn’t going exactly the way she wanted, she decided to do a massive relaunch there.

So I love the way she would just examine what was happening and make a decision to reinvent that or change that or go in a different direction. And she also was advocating for herself.

And she also experienced this during her cancer diagnosis when she was realizing that some of the medication wasn’t going to be good for her. So that was another place to change direction. Pivot and also advocate for yourself and realize that you have choices in this world.

One of the other top takeaways I had from Lori was her willingness to really focus in on the moment and be hyper present to what you were doing right then. While she was at work, she was at work, she was working hard as the CEO and then while she was at home, she really shut off her work. Did not work on the weekends.

Really focused on her present circumstances, her family, her friends, and getting time to relax and rest so that she could be that CEO she needed to be during the week.

I also like the way Lori follows her curiosity. Her curiosity led her to investigate inflammation a little bit deeper. And now she has an exciting new career that she’s launching at this stage of life and she’s interested and passionate about it and I know it’ll be a success. And she is doing amazing things in this world with her podcast and as an advocate for this time of life.

So if you haven’t had a chance to listen to episode 122, definitely go and do that now.
