Ep145 Transcript: 3 Elements of a Great Mastermind – Quick Fix Friday
Andrea Vahl: Are you looking to start or join a mastermind group? There are three key elements that I think make a mastermind group great. In today’s quick fix Friday, I’m going to dive a little bit deeper into these elements and talk about our special announcement we had in episode 143.
Intro: Hello, dreamers. Welcome to the late starters club, giving you the inspiration, mindset, and tools you need to start something midlife and beyond remember, it’s never too late to follow your dreams.
Andrea Vahl: In episode 143, my friend Phyllis Khare and I announced that we’re starting something exciting. We are starting the late starters club masterminds. And if you are looking to be a part of a mastermind, even if you’re looking to start your own mastermind, I think there are three key elements that make masterminds great.
And there’s lots of things that can go into masterminds, but these are the essentials that I’ve boiled it down to.
Number one is structure. You want to have a good structure. Of course, you want to know how often you’re meeting when you’re meeting. You need to make sure that works for everybody. You want to have a certain number of members. What are the meetings going to look like? Are there going to be hot seats, things like that. So that when you meet, everyone knows the ground rules. Everyone knows how the meetings work and they know how you’re communicating in between meetings because it’s important to be able to get ahold of each other, paying ideas off of each other and be able to really trust your mastermind group. So structure is key.
Number two is purpose. I think each mastermind is really good when you’ve got a common purpose and hopefully you have some common things that you’re working towards. So that’s why in Late Starters Club, we have built our masterminds so that we have different groups that are going to align with a similar purpose.
Our first group is the business starters. Those are people who are starting something new. Maybe you’ve never started something new, but maybe you’ve started something new in the past and you just are starting something new and want some help in facilitating that. Want to bounce ideas off, off of each other and really get some accountability there.
Our second group is the business builders. So you’ve already created something and you’re just trying to scale it up. It’s helpful when people are in that same mindset as you and they’ve started something and are really just trying to grow it as, as much as they can or in a way that they want to.
And our third group is the business burnout group. And surprisingly, interestingly, there’s a lot of people in this group. I know that some people are looking at changing careers, making a big shift, and you just don’t know where to start. So it’s going to be great to have these groups together so that we have that common purpose and we’re working towards similar goals.
And the essential element number three is accountability. And that means accountability for showing up to meetings and getting your stuff done that you’ve been assigned to get done. If you’ve got assignments, if you’ve got things that you’re committing to between the meetings, and I like having a lot of accountability around making sure we’re setting goals and getting those things done that we’re committing to. So we’re going to have that as part of our masterminds in the late starters club. And I have found that’s when I make the most progress when I really got a lot of accountability to show up, to be a active participant and to really hold space for the other people in the mastermind group.
So if you’re interested in learning more about our masterminds, getting on the list, we are curating our groups so that we are making sure that everyone is a right fit for our mastermind and that this is the right fit for you as well. So I encourage you if you have any interest in getting in on a mastermind group if you are, at this point in your life where you’re looking to do something new, grow something or make a big shift, these masterminds are going to be amazing.
