Ep100 Transcript: We’re Just Getting Started
Hello, late starters. It’s your host, Andrea Vahl, and I am here with episode 100!
Episode 100, woo.
And my top takeaway from all the episodes so far is that we are just getting started listening as I talk about some of my favorite things I’ve learned from all the amazing interviews.
Hello Dreamers. Welcome to the Late Starters Club, giving you the inspiration mindset and tools you need to start something midlife and beyond. Remember, it’s never too late to follow your dreams.
So the number one theme that I’ve heard from all the people I’ve interviewed is that we are just getting started. Midlife is an amazing time. And we’re tired of the preconceived notions of aging and retirement. So we are starting new things, and that’s amazing.
Some of the people I talked to were forced to make a change and some were called to make a change, but in either case, everyone was happy that they made the change, whether it was starting a new career, starting a new business venture, going into comedy, starting something new as an athlete or whatever.
I have talked to some amazing people, including Mary Hannah, one of the oldest Olympians. Deirdre Wolownick, the oldest woman to have climbed El Capitan. Dr. Philip Mary, getting his PhD at age 70. Mark Schaffer, starting a speaking career at age 50. Gina Schrek starting a co-working space at age 50 and so many more.
And one thing that I was so inspired with is that everyone had challenges. People were overwhelmed, they were frustrated. It was difficult. They had doubts, but they pushed through.
The common traits I saw from all of these interviews is people had resilience, optimism and determination. They weren’t gonna let anything or anyone stop them. We’re gonna push through and keep going, and it may not have looked like what they thought. Maybe things turned out a little bit different. They had a different view, but they kept pushing through the challenges and were rewarded with their efforts.
And some of the results that I saw from people is that they are now loving their life. They had no regrets. They were doing the thing they might have always wanted to do or didn’t even know that they had wanted to do, but we’re finding so much fulfillment in their midlife. They were sharing their talents and their gifts and expressing themselves in a way that they wanted to, and they knew that they had so much more to give and to contribute in this world.
So many of them were doing the work on their mindsets and really knowing that that was a key to being able to achieve what they wanted to achieve, and they’re inspiring others with their examples and with their work and inspiring me, it’s been an amazing thing. I didn’t even know how inspired I would get from these interviews, so it’s been awesome, and I am also just getting started with this podcast.
Can’t wait to dive into more interviews and more inspiration. I hope that you have enjoyed it as much as I have because it’s been amazing, and thank you so much for listening. I really appreciate it and all the kind words that you’ve said along the way. So thank you, listeners, because this has been awesome.
And I also wanna say thank you so much to Sarah Scott, my podcast manager. I could not have done this without her, and she is incredible.
So thanks everyone and cheers to another hundred episodes coming Your Way.
