Ep78 Transcript: Finish What You Start – Top Takeaways from Saundra Boyd
Hey, late starters. Maybe it’s time to finish what you’ve started. In episode 77, I talked to Saundra Boyd, who got her Bachelor’s of Science in nursing at age 57. After being a registered nurse for 42 years. She had always wanted to get her Bachelor of Science in Nursing, and she went and did it and then started her business at age 59.
If you have something that you have wanted to get finished this is your episode to listen to.
Hello Dreamers. Welcome to the Late Starters Club, giving you the inspiration mindset and tools you need to start something midlife and beyond. Remember, it’s never too late to follow your dreams.
Here are some of my top takeaways from Saundra Boyd, and it really boils down to this drive to finish something that you’ve started.
Maybe you have this open loop, maybe you have this thing that you’ve always wanted to do. It’s always been something that’s maybe been on your vision board, maybe on a periphery, but I think at this point in our lives, at our midlife, we can see that we have limited time left. And that’s what I think is so inspiring because it pushes us to finish the things that we’ve started that we’ve always wanted to do.
And it’s exciting and we can do it. And Sandra is living proof. In her episode, we talked about her career of nursing for 42 years. She was a very successful nurse working in, highly stressful situations, but she just had this poll to go back and get her Bachelor of Science in Nursing, and that led to a whole different thing about what she was going to do from then on out, she decided to attend a conference. She wasnt even planning on starting a business, but she attended this conference and saw tons of people who were starting these businesses and it inspired her.
And she said yes to speaking. That was another top takeaway from my episode with her, is just saying yes to things.
That might scare you, that you might be a little bit afraid of. She was a little bit nervous to go to this conference. She didn’t know anybody. She was a little bit nervous to go speak. She had never spoken on a stage before really. And she found that she did it. She could do it, and she found that people were encouraging her to start this business that she realized was a passion of hers.
This caregiver’s have about providing respite to caregivers, and I just think it’s, amazing. She dove in. She’s now in her sixties running this business, has no plans to stop and is giving an amazing gift out there into the world and continuing her career in a brand new way. You know, she really decide that she couldn’t be that same level of nurse that she had been for the 42 years prior.
She needed to pivot into something new and she just was open to the universe to guide her in this new direction. And she started a podcast. She had no idea how to start a podcast. She started a website. She had no idea how to do that. And she dove in and learned it. It wasn’t easy.
Another takeaway from her episode was that at this age, you’ve just had enough challenges and these challenges have made you stronger and you realize that you can keep going. We are able to push through these challenges that may have stopped us when we were younger. And that’s, I think the exciting thing about this time too, is that we have resilience like we never had maybe in our twenties or you know, even thirties sometimes.
So we have this resilience, this experience, this ability. To say yes to things and to, you know, be open. So love the episode. Definitely go back and listen to episode 77 if you haven’t had a chance already, and check out Sandra’s website.
