Ep117 Transcript: How to be Multi-Passionate – Top Takeaways from Andrea Vahl

June 28, 2023

Sarah Scott: Hello everyone and welcome to the Late Starters Club. My name is Sarah Scott. I am the podcast manager here for The Late Starters Club, and I’m here today because I want to share with you my takeaways from interviewing your podcast host, Andrea Vahl. She is a multi-passionate entrepreneur and she has some things to say about what that means and how you can chase after all of your passions too.

Listen in.

Andrea Vahl: Hello Dreamers. Welcome to the Late Starters Club, giving you the inspiration mindset and tools you need to start something midlife and beyond. Remember, it’s never too late to follow your dreams.

First a word from our sponsor. Me!

Are you feeling stuck in your business and aren’t sure how to grow? Or maybe you’re starting something new and just really don’t know what strategy is going to work best for you? Well, then you might need my one-on-one coaching and consulting.

I’ve personally helped businesses grow to the six figure mark and seven figure mark. Whether it’s really diving into your ads and seeing what’s wrong, giving you hands-on specific advice, or it’s just taking a look at your overall strategy and giving you some recommendations for moving ahead, just go to andreavahl.com and go to the consulting and coaching tab for more information and packages that fit your needs.

And now back to our regularly scheduled program.

Sarah Scott: In episode 116, I had the pleasure of interviewing Andrea Vahl, and we talked about everything. And if you haven’t quite realized everything that Andrea does, let me just recap it for you. She is a business owner, a speaker, a consultant, a course creator, an actress, a standup comedian. She is a world traveler and a YouTube edutainer. She has done all of it along with being your podcast host. So what is it that we can take away from somebody who has so many different passions in life?

One of the first things that I realized when I spoke with Andrea is that while she may be multi-passionate, she does not try to do it all, all at the same time. She makes space and she makes room for the things that actually are going to matter to her at that time. And in my next episode for Quick Fix Friday, I’m gonna talk a little bit about some of the time management things that she talked about and give you more tips so that you can see how can you manage your time so that you can also follow all of your different passions.

The next thing I took away from her was when it came to choosing which things that she wanted to do, she talked about following her curiosity, what was it that she was most interested in, because like she said, if people are gonna find out about what you’re doing, you are going to be talking about this thing a lot. So you wanna make sure that you are following your curiosities, that you’re truly interested in it, and that you just make it fun and make it exciting for yourself as you’re moving along.

The next thing that I think, and probably one of the most important lessons I’ve taken away from Andrea, is once you find something that you’re passionate about or at least curious about, don’t wait for the opportunity to present itself for you to do something with it. If you want to be a standup comedian, well then figure out how you can go do that. Don’t wait for somebody to put you in their show. If that means starting your own show, start your own show. Do you wanna write a book? Well then go ahead and write it. These days, the option to self-publish is huge. Do you wanna create jewelry? Well, great. Go ahead and create those pieces. Put them online.

Open up an Etsy shop. Don’t wait to see if somebody else is going to come along and ask you to display them in their store. Just do it for yourself. Put yourself out there. You can create those opportunities everywhere today.

So find that passion, go for it, and just make those opportunities for yourself.

Once you start creating those opportunities, one of the biggest thing is don’t let a lack of initial success deter you from your end goal. Not everything that Andrea does works the first time around. Sometimes it takes 2, 3, 4 rounds before something actually sticks.

So it doesn’t mean that the idea was a bad idea or that her curiosities and passions were put in the wrong place. It just means that it took the rest of us a little bit more time to catch up to her. So keep that in mind for yourselves. Don’t let any lack of initial interest from the outside world deter you.

Keep pushing forward, keep looking for different avenues. Keep looking for different things, and you will find your success.

And then finally my last takeaway from Andrea was just have fun. At the end of the day, everything that she did, everything she put her mind to, she was having fun. Whether that was as Grandma Mary in her Edutainer role. Or in her standup comedy, or even in creating content these days for her business.

Everything she does, she does it because it’s fun, because it sparks her curiosity and she wants that curiosity and fun to be infectious with the people that are around her. Do the same thing and you’ll find the success that you’re looking for.
